Spicy Pan-fried Tofu 'Sammich'

Lately we have been craving savoury and indulgent foods, possibly due to the lack of solid vegan food in the Faroe Islands. We were living off of gluten-free pasta, corn cereal and soy mylk which was not very satisfying (it did the job though) or nutritious. All worth it though (because it was cinematically beautiful)!  We definitely missed tofu, tempeh, and other sources of plant-based protein, so eating meals like this spicy tofu sandwich is more than satisfying. We normally bake tofu, however, frying it really brought out some unique flavours and a crispy texture. 


Spicy Pan-Fried Tofu Sandwich Recipe:


What you need:

What you'll need for Tofu:

  • 1 Packet Sprouted Extra Firm Tofu

  • 1/4 Cup Tamari

  • 1 Tbsp Coconut Aminos

  • 1/2 Tbsp Chilli Flakes

  • 1 1/2 Tsp Cumin

  • 1/2 Tsp Tumeric

  • 1 Tsp Smoked Paprika

  • 1/2 Tsp Cayenne Pepper

  • 1/2 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar

What you'll need for Garlic Guac:

  • 1 Avocado

  • 3 Cloves Garlic

  • Juice of 1/2 Lemon

  • 1 Tsp Pink Salt

  • 1/4 Tsp Cumin

  • 1/4 Tsp Paprika

What you'll need for Blue Spirulina Hummus:

  • 1/2 Can Chickpeas, Drained & Rinsed

  • 1/4 Cup Tahini

  • Juice of 1/2 Lemon

  • 1 Clove Garlic

  • Salt & Pepper To Taste

  • 1 Tbsp Olive Oil

  • 1/4 Cup Alkaline Water

  • 1 Tsp Raw Nice Blue Spirulina (use our code sugared15 to get 15 % off)


What to do:

What to do for Tofu:

  1. Press tofu to remove water

  2. Cut tofu into thick strips

  3. Poke holes in the tofu with a tooth pick 

  4. In a small bowl, prepare the sauce

  5. Dip tofu into the sauce

  6. Place tofu onto a frying pan

  7. Pour extra sauce over top of the tofu

  8. Cover & fry on medium heat for 10 minutes on each side


What to do for Guac:

  1. Crush garlic cloves

  2. Mash avocado in a small bowl

  3. Mix in garlic, lemon juice, and spices

  4. Mash again if needed


What to do for Hummus:

  1. Blend all ingredients in a food processor

  2. Add in blue spirulina and blend until the colour is evenly spread

  • Go crazy with your toppings or keep it simple!
